Today, we were food investigators! The students are learning so much about nutrition! Today we took a look at nutrition labels. The students learned how to read the labels, and identify what is "in" their food. We looked at actual students' snacks! We recorded serving sizes, calories, fat content, and essential nutrients. We then investigated that food and decided whether or not it was a healthy snack. After reviewing 5 different snacks the students chose which one was the healthiest! (Carrots and dip won the contest!)
This lesson included reading, math, and science all together! Students were reading and recording important information from a food label, comparing numbers (which snack has more fat? more calories? etc.), and also learning about nutritious snacks! They are really making connections here!
