We finished up our "Chocolate Touch" Unit by comparing different types of chocolate bars. We used our five senses to examine the chocolates. We also read the nutrition facts for each chocolate bar! This was a great extension to our nutrition unit!! After looking at at least 3 different chocolates, the students created their own chocolate bar! (Wrapper) It was great! They had so much fun and our classroom is now decorated with new brands of chocolate. (Makes me hungry! haha)
We also began double digit multiplication! This was a very difficult time at first for many of us because it was such a new concept. But everyone is doing so great now! I know many parents were confused by the strategies the students were using. I was even confused before I taught the class! However, I am amazed by how well these strategies work. We now know three strategies to solve multi-digit multiplication problems. Students are encouraged to use whichever one works best for them! These three ways include: the Area/Box Method, Partial Products, and Standard Algorithm. Students! Show your parents! Parents! Ask to see these new and interesting methods. :)
