We are finishing up our first full week of school - and we have accomplished so much already!!
In reading we have been focusing on "How to Build a Readers Life." Students have been learning how to choose just right books, how to make goals and track progress, and how to find a great spot to read that will allow them to "Real Read." We have also been completing our beginning of the year testing. Students read books with me and are assessed through a program called mClass. Most students are familiar with this testing!
In math we have completed our place value review, learned addition strategies, and we are currently working on subtraction with regrouping. Subtraction with regrouping seems to be a difficult concept to grasp. If you are having trouble or just want extra practice - here is an interactive subtraction site!

AMAZING NEWS!
Our class has 2 new iPad Mini's! We were able to purchase these iPads through donations from a site called Donors Choose. We are slowly introducing them into our daily schedule. Students have been earning reward time to read on EPIC books on the ipad, and today we used them for small group math work! It will be very exciting to see what else we can use these iPads for!
Check out the pictures below! Students completed an assigned math problem on a task card, scanned the QR code on the card, and the iPad reveals the correct answer! This is an awesome tool to hold students accountable during center time!

**This math group was so excited to use the iPad today!**
In addition to all of our testing and learning, we are also getting ready for our Kid President Open House next week.
Parents! Come out to Open House on Thursday, September 22 from 6-7 to see what your Kid President does each and every day! They are preparing a presentation for you. :)
I will continue to update the classroom blog! I hope to take more pictures during the weeks once testing is over!
